edit: sorry, spoke too soon. The admin panel was active but it doesen't show content on website. On the website there is error message "Please activate the license key to get the output of the WP Carousel Pro plugin"
was able to install that pro version and it's activated

do change to file wp-carousel-pro\src\Includes\Register_Shortcode.php
line 95: change $license_status = 'valid'
It now shows posts carousel on the frontend
