I created a MU plugin that you install into WordPress and an API you installing your server.

You can use it to update plugins easily about editing the plugin code. It works by matching the plug-in slug and version to the versions hosted on the API server.

So basically you rename me a plugin that file to test-plugin_1.1.1.zip And if you're presentation has a plug-in with the slug test-plugin (get the slug from the main PHP file inside the plugin. It's not always the same as the directory though so check the file name) And if the version that's all in WordPress is version 1.0.0 API will update the site.

There's a WebGUI and it you can add the domain name of the sites allowed to update and a security key. Inside the mu plugin You can set the security key to match.

The WebGui also allows you to upload plugins and delete them. As of right now you have to make sure if you upload a new version of a plugin you remove the old version from the server.
